Uncapped New Zealand players are selected for the South Africa tour

For this month’s tour of South Africa, the White Ferns have called up all-rounder Bella Armstrong and batter Kate Anderson.

Armstrong was only selected for the T20I leg, whereas Anderson is listed in the ODI and T20I squads. Because of a finger injury, Anderson was unable to participate in the series against Sri Lanka despite being named the NZC’s Women’s Domestic Player of the Year for her outstanding domestic campaign.

Armstrong received her first call-up to the T20I squad as a result of her performance in the Super Smash as a strong fielder and power hitter.

For the beginning on September 24 ODIs and T20Is, two distinct squads were named.

While Hayley Jensen is out as she continues to recover from knee surgery she underwent in May, Jess Kerr, who missed the Sri Lanka series, is back from injury.

“She has world-class bowling abilities and excels with her in-swinger, which is becoming increasingly challenging in the women’s game. Jess bookends the innings by swinging it up front and bowling an incredible leg cutter at the end, especially in a T20 game.

The return of Jess to the team after an injury prevented her from participating in the Sri Lanka tour is a huge plus, according to White Ferns coach Ben Sawyer.

Sophie Devine (captain), Kate Anderson, Bella Armstrong* (only for T20Is), Suzie Bates, Bernadine Bezuidenhout, Eden Carson, Izzy Gaze (only for ODIs), Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Fran Jonas, Melie Kerr, Molly Penfold, Georgia Plimmer, Hannah Rowe, and Lea Tahuhu make up the New Zealand squad.
