Sri Lanka provides an update on Hasaranga’s fitness ahead of the World Cup.

Wanindu Hasaranga, a star spinner for Sri Lanka, is still hoping to participate in the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Hasaranga is still recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the Lankan Premier League playoffs last month, and the 26-year-old missed Sri Lanka’s recent Asia Cup campaign, in which they finished runner-up.

While Sri Lanka is aware that time is running out for Hasaranga to prove his fitness before their World Cup opener against South Africa on October 7 in Delhi, the team is still exploring all options to allow the right-armer to play in the 50-over showcase.

“We’re consulting with foreign doctors to see if he needs surgery.” He’ll be out for at least three months if he does. At the moment, the situation is not good, and it is highly unlikely that he will be able to play in the World Cup,” Sri Lanka medical panel head Arjuna de Silva told the Sri Lankan newspaper The Sunday Times.

“Because he is a key weapon in our attack, we are exploring other options to see how we can best secure his services, at least for important games.” All of this is dependent on the consultant’s opinions, to whom we are attempting to show his reports.”

If Hasaranga misses the entire World Cup, the team’s bowling stock would be severely depleted, despite his ability to perform well on the big stage.

Hasaranga was the leading wicket-taker in the two most recent editions of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and also topped the wicket charts earlier this year in Zimbabwe during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament.

Sri Lanka is one of only two teams that have yet to name their squad for this year’s World Cup, with the Asian side and Bangladesh having until September 28 to submit their final group of 15 players to the ICC.
