PBKS vs RR, IPL 2024: Captain Sam Curran Guides PBKS Bowlers to Clinch Five-Wicket Victory Against Rajasthan Royals

Captain Sam Curran showcased a stellar performance, notching up a well-paced fifty and claiming two crucial wickets, guiding Punjab Kings to a convincing five-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in their IPL clash in Guwahati on Wednesday. Despite the modest target of 145, Kings faced some hurdles on the sluggish track, but Curran’s composed innings (63 not out off 41 balls, including 5 boundaries and 3 sixes) steered them to their fifth win of the season. PBKS reached the target of 145/5 in 18.5 overs, with Curran receiving valuable support from Jitesh Sharma (22 off 20 balls), forging a fluent fifth-wicket partnership worth 63 runs.

For the Royals, it marked their fourth consecutive defeat, yet they maintained their second position on the table with 16 points, securing a spot in the playoffs.

PBKS encountered an early setback in their chase as Prabhsimran Singh departed in the first over to Trent Boult. The blows continued as Avesh Khan (2/28) struck twice in the fifth over, dismissing Rilee Rossouw and Shashank Singh. Despite these setbacks, Curran and Jitesh managed to build a substantial partnership, with Curran especially punishing R Ashwin for two sixes. Yuzvendra Chahal (2/31) halted their progress momentarily, but Curran and Ashutosh Sharma (17 not out off 11 balls) ensured a smooth finish to the innings.

In the first innings, Rajasthan Royals struggled to accelerate, posting a below-par total of 144/9 despite Riyan Parag’s well-made 48 runs. Ashwin (28 off 19 balls) and Parag attempted to boost the scoring rate during their partnership, but it couldn’t sustain. Rajasthan’s innings faltered early with the dismissal of Jaiswal, followed by slow progress from Samson and Kohler Cadmore. Although Ashwin and Parag provided some resistance, their efforts weren’t sufficient to propel the innings forward consistently.

Overall, PBKS dominated with both bat and ball, while RR struggled to find momentum throughout the match.
