Next season, Prithvi Shaw will return to Northamptonshire.

With regard to Northamptonshire, I still feel like I have more to accomplish: Shaw

The club declared on Thursday, August 31, that Prithvi Shaw would be making a comeback to play for Northamptonshire in the 2024 county season. It was confirmed that Shaw would be available for both the County Championship and the One-Day Cup.

Only four games were played by Shaw for Northamptonshire in 2023 as a knee injury cut short his season. Nevertheless, during his brief tenure, he made an impression, amassing 429 runs, including a record knock of 244 off 153 deliveries against Somerset in the One-Day Cup.

Shaw claimed that he was also contacted by other counties for the upcoming season but ultimately decided to remain with Northamptonshire. “It was so disappointing to get hurt and have to leave early this time. My goal is always to help the team win games.

“After the tournament, a few teams contacted me to discuss playing for them the following year, but I feel like I still have more to accomplish with Northamptonshire. I’m grateful that they gave me the chance this year and I’m excited to return.

Chief Executive Ray Payne commented on his return for the upcoming season, saying, “We saw the impact Prithvi made in his brief stay this year and how well he was received by supporters. It’s really satisfying to have already secured his return for the following season and for the entire following year. It’s worked out fantastically because I believe he was as eager to return as we were to welcome him back.

The team’s head coach, John Sadler, expressed his excitement about Shaw’s return for the upcoming season. “Prithvi is an incredibly talented individual, and what he accomplished for us in such a short period of time was amazing. The chance for him to do this next year is really exciting for us all because he was incredibly disappointed not to be able to stay longer due to his injury because he wanted to play some red ball cricket.
