Live: Australia gets off to a flying start in Bengaluru

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is gearing up for its next big match, with Australia taking on Pakistan in the tournament’s 18th game at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy stadium.

Australia 82/0 (10 overs) vs Pakistan
Australia’s openers took advantage of Pakistan’s mistakes on the cricket field. On the first ball of the game, Shaheen Shah Afridi launched a confident leg before appeal against David Warner. He couldn’t persuade the umpire, but he did get his captain to review the call. Pakistan lost the review because the batter had a significant inside edge.

Warner survived another scare in the fifth over, when Usama Mir missed a simple on-side chance. Meanwhile, both batters were able to get started on a good batting wicket.

Haris Rauf’s opening over, which was taken for 24 runs, was their best during the first Powerplay. A crouched Warner hit a spectacular six that went deep into the stadium. Mitchell Marsh, his partner, finished the over with a hat-trick of boundaries.

While the result in Lucknow has given Pat Cummins’ men hope, a loss to Pakistan would be a devastating blow to their knockout chances.

And the Men in Green would like to get back on track after a disappointing performance in Ahmedabad.

A victory for either team would put them in the top four of the points table.

XIs in action:

Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins (c), Adam Zampa, and Josh Hazlewood are the Australian players.

Pakistan: Abdullah Shafique (c), Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (wk), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Usama Mir.
