Lasith Malinga signs up as Mumbai Indians bowling coach

Malinga’s IPL career came to an end with a win over CSK in the 2019 final.

The Mumbai Indians have announced the appointment of veteran Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga as bowling coach for the IPL 2024 season.

The Mumbai Indians legend, who played for the franchise from 2009 to 2019, will join the Mark Boucher-led squad for the 2024 season. Kieron Pollard, Malinga’s ex-Mumbai Indians teammate, is also on the coaching staff.

Malinga is also the bowling coach for two other Mumbai Indians teams: MI Cape Town in the SA20 league in South Africa and MI New York in Major League Cricket in the United States.

“It is truly an honour for me to be appointed Bowling Coach of Mumbai Indians and my journey in the OneFamily continues, following MI New York and MI Cape Town,” Malinga said in a press release. “I am looking forward to working closely with Mark, Polly, Rohit and the rest of the team, especially the bowling unit, whose approach I loved last season, and the young MI talent that has the potential to excel, backed by the passionate MI Paltan.”

Malinga has been with the Mumbai Indians since 2009 and has won seven trophies with the team, including four IPL titles, two Champions League T20 titles, and one Major League Cricket title as a bowling coach. He previously worked as the Rajasthan Royals’ fast bowling coach.
