Key spinner injured for remainder of India series means England loses

Due to a left knee injury, Jack Leach will miss the final three Test matches against India, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Sunday, February 11.

Leach was ruled out of the second Test after sustaining the injury during the first one in Hyderabad. The left-arm spinner will return home from Abu Dhabi, where England is presently based, during the lengthy interval between the third and second Tests, which get underway in Rajkot on Thursday, February 15.

The ECB statement also stated that “Leach will work closely with the England and Somerset medical teams in respect to his rehabilitation.”

England hasn’t yet announced a Leach substitute. Nonetheless, the team has a strong spin unit that includes Joe Root as a backup option in addition to Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, and Shoaib Bashir.

As the third Test approaches, the series is at a level of 1-1. India recovered from an early deficit in the first Test match against England, winning by 106 runs in Visakhapatnam after a nail-biting 28-run triumph in Hyderabad.
