The most recent information regarding captain Kane Williamson’s knee injury recovery has been provided by New Zealand.

Williamson injured his knee during the IPL, but he is still a part of New Zealand’s 15-man team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Williamson won’t play in the New Zealand Blackcaps’ opening-round match against England on October 5 in Ahmedabad in order to ensure his full recovery.

Williamson will play today’s exhibition match between New Zealand and Pakistan in Hyderabad as a batter only, and he plans to bat and field in the subsequent exhibition match between New Zealand and South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram. However, New Zealand is taking a cautious approach with their talisman in order to make sure that he returns with all guns blazing as soon as possible.

Gary Stead, the team’s head coach, commented on Kane Williamson’s fitness by saying, “Right from the start we’ve taken a long-term view on Kane’s return to play. His recovery is going well, and the next step is to make sure he can handle the pressure and rigors of playing international cricket.

With regard to Kane’s recovery, “we’ll continue to take a day-by-day approach, and we definitely won’t be putting any pressure on him to return before he is ready,” Stead said.

Williamson will not be playing, so wicketkeeper-batter Tom Latham will captain the team.
