India becomes the first team to qualify for the semi-finals.

India has secured a place in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup semi-finals after claiming their seventh victory of the tournament in spectacular fashion.
The tournament hosts have been in excellent form during the Cricket World Cup, and their 302-run win over Sri Lanka on Thursday secured Rohit Sharma’s team a place in the knockout stages.

India has two more group-stage matches left, against South Africa in Kolkata and the Netherlands in Bengaluru, but they are mathematically guaranteed a top-four spot after winning all seven of their matches so far.

The rest of the semi-final lineup is still up in the air, with Pakistan and Afghanistan trailing Australia and New Zealand by just two points in the standings.

However, India can now begin to prepare for the crucial knockout matches in a fortnight.

A win over South Africa next would guarantee India top spot in the table, putting them in the first semi-final on November 15 against the team that finishes fourth in the final group standings.
