GT’s dreams dashed after washout in Ahmedabad

Rain dealt a decisive blow to last year’s runners-up, the Gujarat Titans, as their face-off against the Kolkata Knight Riders ended in a washout. However, it brought elation to the Knight Riders, who now secure a top-two finish, granting them an extra opportunity to vie for the championship through the playoffs.

The Knight Riders last clinched a top-two spot a decade ago in 2014, coincidentally, the same year they lifted the trophy.

This outcome sets the stage for a high-stakes showdown between the Delhi Capitals and the Lucknow Super Giants, with the loser facing elimination. While both Gujarat and KKR still have a chance to sway the standings with one game remaining each, Gujarat will confront the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad on May 16, while KKR will take on the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on May 19, marking the season’s final league fixture.

Yet, for KKR, the washout comes with a minor setback: the lack of game time at the venue where they’ve secured a playoff berth.
