Australia One-Day Cup 2023-24 Series Overview

Josh Philippe hit an 88-ball 90.

Western Australia vs. Queensland, Brisbane

Western Australia defeated Queensland by four wickets at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field, chasing a target of 239 with 9.4 overs to spare, led by Josh Philippe’s 88-ball 90.

Despite setbacks such as losing opener D’Arcy Short on his first ball and Cameron Bancroft for 10 runs, Philippe led the team to a successful run-chase and a winning start to the season. He and Sam Whiteman (62 off 52 balls) added a crucial 90-run partnership for the third wicket. Cooper Connolly (42 off 32 balls) and skipper Ashton Turner (27* off 55 balls) anchored the innings to see WA home.

Queensland were bowled out for 238 in 46.2 overs earlier in the day after the batters failed to convert promising starts. Ben McDermott’s 52 off 69 deliveries at the top of the order was the highest score. Their innings appeared to be going well until they collapsed from 102/1 in the 20th over. They then lost three quick wickets for 19 runs. Lance Morris, despite being a bit expensive with 4 for 64 off 10 overs, made his mark by dismantling Queensland’s batting lineup. Morris was well-supported by Cameron Gannon, Andrew Tye, and D’Arcy Short.
